The tradition, delivered monthly.

CATECHIZED is a monthly subscription that brings the Church Fathers to your door. Each box contains a beautifully printed primary source from the patristic tradition — accompanied by a devotional item and reading notes — so that building a serious library of the Christian tradition requires nothing more than opening your post.

A Beautifully Printed Primary Text

Each month we select a work from the Church Fathers — the Epistles of Ignatius, a sermon of Chrysostom, a letter of Clement — typeset with care and printed on quality stock.

A Devotional Keepsake

Alongside the text, receive a devotional item: a hand-finished prayer card bearing the image of a saint, an artistic bookmark, or another small token rooted in the tradition of the Church.

Reading Notes & Context

Every selection includes a brief introduction situating the text in its historical and theological moment — written for the serious reader, not the specialist.

A Library Built Over Time

Month by month, your shelf fills with the great voices of the tradition. CATECHIZED is designed for the long read — a library worthy of the faith that produced it.

"Our heart is restless until it rests in Thee."

— Augustine of Hippo, Confessions

The Voices of the Tradition

"Imitate me, as I imitate Christ."

— 1 Corinthians 11:1

We are catechized by the world — by screens, noise, and the spirit of the age. If we desire to be holy, to become like the saints, we must be catechized by them: by their lives, their prayers, and above all, their words.

Not summaries. Not commentary. The primary sources themselves — in their full weight and beauty — delivered to your door.

For those who want more than modern summaries

The Christian intellectual tradition is vast, ancient, and largely unread. Most Christians never encounter the Fathers except in quotation. CATECHIZED exists to change that — one monthly parcel at a time.

We are a reading society and a book subscription — for those who believe that the Church's great tradition deserves to be held in the hands, read slowly, and built into a library that will outlast a season.

The Fathers in Your Hands

Beautifully typeset and printed primary texts — not PDFs, not ebooks — arrive at your door each month, made to be read, handled, and kept.

Primary Sources, Not Summaries

Engage Augustine, Chrysostom, and Ignatius in their own words. Secondary reading has its place, but the tradition rewards direct encounter.

Devotion Rooted in the Saints

Each parcel includes a devotional item — a prayer card, a bookmark, a saint's image — connecting daily prayer to the great cloud of witnesses.

The Development of Doctrine

Learn how Christian theology developed across centuries — from the Apostolic Fathers through the councils, the desert, and the doctors of the Church.

A Community of Readers

Join readers who take the tradition seriously — for reflection, discussion, and the slow work of theological formation.

A Library Worth Having

CATECHIZED is built for the long read. Every month, every year, your shelf deepens — filled with the great voices of the Christian tradition.

Ad Fontes

"Back to the sources."

The cry ad fontes — back to the sources — is a call to encounter foundational texts directly, rather than through layers of commentary and secondary tradition. The Fathers embodied it. The councils and doctors of the Church transmitted it. CATECHIZED carries it forward.

We believe the primary texts of the Christian tradition — letters, sermons, commentaries, creeds, and confessions — are not antiquarian curiosities. They are living voices. They deserve to be read.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you begin.

Each monthly parcel contains a beautifully printed primary source text from the Church Fathers or classical Christian tradition — typeset, bound, and made to be read and kept. Alongside the text, you receive a devotional keepsake such as a prayer card, a saint's image, or a bookmark drawn from the tradition.

The Church Fathers are the theological teachers and bishops of the early Church — men like Augustine of Hippo, John Chrysostom, Ignatius of Antioch, Athanasius, and Basil the Great. Writing from the first through eighth centuries, they shaped Christian doctrine, practice, and spirituality. Their works remain foundational across Catholic, Orthodox, and many Protestant traditions.

Not at all. Each parcel is curated for the serious reader, not the specialist. Whether you are new to patristic literature or returning to texts you studied years ago, the primary sources speak for themselves. We select accessible, formative works and provide enough context for any attentive reader to engage them deeply.

A CATECHIZED subscription is $40 per month. This covers the printed text, the devotional keepsake, and shipping to your door. There are no hidden fees. You may cancel at any time before your next billing date.

Parcels ship in the first week of each month. You will receive a shipping confirmation with tracking once your parcel is on its way. We currently ship within the United States.

Yes. You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you will not be charged for the following month, and you keep everything already received.

The Christian tradition is vast. CATECHIZED draws from the full breadth of patristic and classical literature — the Apostolic Fathers, the Desert Fathers, the Cappadocians, the Latin doctors, the medieval mystics, and more. The catalog is deep enough that long-term subscribers will continue to encounter new voices and texts year after year.

CATECHIZED is for any Christian who takes the tradition seriously. The Church Fathers predate the divisions of the Reformation and belong to the whole Church. Our subscribers include Catholics, Orthodox Christians, Anglicans, Presbyterians, and others who want to go deeper into the roots of the faith.

Catechized uses the classic English translations from the historic Ante-Nicene Fathers and Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers collections. These are the standard nineteenth-century English editions of the early Church Fathers, translated and edited by multiple patristic scholars rather than by a single translator. The translations are generally literal in style and were prepared with introductions, notes, and scholarly apparatus to help readers engage the original writings.

The works themselves were written by the individual Church Fathers, including figures such as Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Origen, Athanasius, Augustine, Chrysostom, Basil, and others. The collections were edited and arranged by scholars including Alexander Roberts, James Donaldson, A. Cleveland Coxe, Philip Schaff, and Henry Wace.

No. Catechized does not currently commission new translations. We prepare and print carefully formatted editions from these historic English collections so readers can receive the Christian tradition in a beautiful, accessible physical format.

Catechized is currently designed as a monthly subscription service, delivering one volume from the Christian tradition at a time. Individual past volumes may be made available separately in the future.

For any questions about your subscription, shipping, or account, you can reach us at [email protected]. We aim to respond within one business day.
