Dr. Steven Lawson has been removed from his position as lead pastor of Trinity Bible Church in Dallas following the revelation of an “inappropriate relationship” with a woman.
At 73, Lawson is a prominent figure not only for his pastoral work at Trinity Bible Church but also for his roles as a professor and dean at The Master’s Seminary (TMS), founded by John MacArthur, and as the president and founder of OnePassion Ministries. He has been married to Anne for over 40 years and is the father of four grown children. Lawson is also the author of more than 25 books.
Changes at Trinity Bible Church
The elders of Trinity Bible Church announced on their website that Lawson has been removed from all ministry activities at the church, effective immediately. The decision came after Lawson himself disclosed his involvement in an inappropriate relationship. The church leadership is committed to supporting him through this process and focusing on his personal repentance. Consequently, Lawson will no longer receive any compensation from the church.
In their statement, the elders reminded the congregation that “we are ALL sinners” and affirmed that Jesus Christ, who came to save sinners, remains the true Head of the Church. They reassured the community that Trinity Bible Church’s mission will continue under Christ’s guidance, just as it has since its founding on January 5, 2018.
The elders also emphasized that the church has always been centered on strong biblical teaching through various preachers. They expressed confidence in God’s ongoing work in the church and concluded their message with a call for prayer for everyone involved, quoting 1 Corinthians 10:12: “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.”
