Berlinghiero

Berlinghiero was a thirteenth-century painter active in Lucca and one of the key figures in early Tuscan panel painting. Known from documentary records and a signed crucifix, he helped transmit Byzantine devotional forms into the painted crucifixes, icons, and altarpieces of medieval Italy.
