Martin Schongauer

1450 – 1491

Martin Schongauer was a German painter and engraver from Colmar whose finely cut prints shaped late fifteenth-century sacred art. Trained in a goldsmithing milieu and celebrated for precise cross-hatching, he became one of the most influential printmakers before Albrecht Dürer.
